"Edouard Cazaux ((1889-1974) Ovoid Earthenware Vase"
This is an ovoid rotating earthenware vase by the great French ceramist. We can see polychrome decorations of Basque dancers and musicians. The neck of the vase in carmine net. Good condition, the vase is signed on the back “CAZAUX” French sculptor, Edouard Cazaux (1889-1974) is best known as a ceramist for his Art Deco works. Coming from a long line of potters from the South-East of France, the young Edouard Cazaux, barely 10 years old, was already turning clay in his father's workshop. In 1912, he left for Paris to complete a dual education in ceramics and sculpture by taking courses at the École des Beaux Arts and the Ecole de Sèvres. In 1937, at the international exhibition in Paris, he received a gold medal. Edouard Cazaux is known for his use of Norton sandstone. His enameled Norton stoneware vases were presented at the Rouard gallery in 1946. Alongside his contemporaries Decoeur, Lenoble, Buthaud and Mayodon, the artist developed decorative ceramics on themes inspired by Greco-Roman antiquity, religion or bestiary.
