Oil on canvas within a contemporary frame, depicting the death of Cleopatra, in the dismay and sadness of her handmaids and Roman soldiers. Vases and precious objects stand out in the foreground and rich drapes of fine fabrics in the background.
The provenance "Ludovisi-Boncompagni Collection" of Rome highlights the importance of this painting of which other contemporary replicas are known, with slight variations and the same type of golden frames, original from the 1600s.
