Gabriel GRIFFON (1866-1938) - Born in 1866 in Toulouse and died in 1938, (French School) Painter-sculptor, with his museum in the town of Agen at 17 rue Carnot (where he lived), he creates landscapes in light tones , populated by numerous characters, reduced to a harmonious symphony of luminous spots. It presents in a caressing light subjects of gallant parties, rounds of bathers, meadows streaked with sun and populated with nymphs and fauns evoking the mythology and gallant scenes of the French School of the 18th century (Watteau, Lancret, etc.). .). The poetry of his watercolors is particularly appreciated for the idyllic characters that stand out in an ethereal light with a dreamlike touch in the taste of Monticelli's paintings. A popular sculptor, working for a long time in Bordeaux, he then shared his life between Nice and Agen (his house at 17 rue Carnot which became the Griffon Museum). It is also referenced in the main reference books on art such as Bénézit but especially in the very selective Dictionary of Little Masters of Painting by Gérald Schurr.
