"Royal Odumado Mask Igala Nigeria"
Rare helm mask or helmet Igala Nigeria. These respected masks represent the power and authority of the king. They are rather rare on the art market, beautiful dark patina, height approximately 36 cm and width 28, significant traces of use, dents, small wear losses... Estimated dating, late 19th, early 20th century. Note the numerous and beautiful scarifications which adorn the face and the rich work of the headdress, the eyes said to be quarter moon, A model quite similar to the Minneapolis Institute of Art
MIA and to Sothebys which I find cruder
Sothebys.
I tested it, the head fits well and you can see well through the eye holes.
