" Large Richly Garnished Bride And Groom Globe - Year 1913 "
Large Wedding Globe richly garnished with its bridal bouquet (placed at the back) Dating from the Year 1913.... A bridal globe is a composition made on the occasion of a wedding. This tradition, which unfortunately no longer exists, comes from the centuries-old popular history of marriage rites. The young bride, all social categories combined, had the custom of keeping her bridal crown under a glass dome placed on a wooden base. Previously, she placed it inside its original box or had it framed. The day after the wedding, the bride placed her wedding crown inside this globe. It is both a memory of this beautiful day and an evolving composition that the woman will continue to enhance throughout her life, depending on the events that occur: birth, bereavement, widowhood, remarriage, etc. The bridal globe was displayed either in the couple's bedroom or in the living room, on the fireplace for example. Over the years, the couple placed other symbolic objects in their eyes such as grapes for prosperity, birds (depending on the species) for the longevity of the marriage and fertility, plant elements (e.g. ivy , synonymous with attachment), gold ornaments (gold being solid, it symbolizes the solidity and therefore the happiness of a couple). It does not specifically belong to a region of France, because it was made almost everywhere in France, from 1850 until around the 1920s and 1930s. The central mirror guarantees sincerity within the couple. The rectangular mirrors, here 3 in number, represent the number of years of engagement.
