Pewter PITCHER, with shoulder, flared foot, tasseled thumbscrew and crossette handle.
Hallmark of Nicolas PREAUX received master in 1744: serpentine / N.PREAVX / 1751.
Height: 27.3 cm.
LISIEUX, Between 1751 and 1780
In very good condition and good quality.
This master died in 1762, his widow continued the activity until 1780.
This type with shoulder and crossette handle is characteristic of this production center of which Nicolas Préaux was the most famous master. The gauge in force in this low center Norman was 2.49 liters for the largest, called "POT". All others are obtained by dividing the previous one by two to the smallest... Each center having its own gauge, except that cited above, there was therefore no national uniformity or common rule until, the establishment of the Metric System.
