"Saint-louis — Water Pitcher, “bidasoa” Model, In Solid Cut Crystal."
SAINT LOUIS. Large and beautiful PITCHER, for water, fruit juice, etc., with a slightly frustoconical shape and a flared neck, made of solid translucent crystal blown and shaped with a tool, with a decoration chiseled halfway down with a frieze of wide beveled patterns, streaks, wavy. Curved handle, formed, attached and hot fixed to the tool; pontil mark on the reverse of the base of the pitcher, carefully ground. Work from the Manufacture Royale de Saint-Louis, beginning of the second half of the 20th century, around 1960-70. “Bidasoa” model. Signature of Maison Saint-Louis stamped on the reverse of the base, but difficult to read and partly erased (refer to photo n°3, where it was attempted to photograph the signature). The signature is nevertheless clearly present; it stands out by varying the light exposure conditions. Furthermore, this model remains quite well known. This pitcher is both qualitative – the crystal is pure, brilliant, and also very heavy, dense and massive – and interesting because of its dimensions and its function (the fact, precisely, that it is a pitcher, of a sort of water jug). It is also a beautiful model, close in design to the illustrious “Jersey” (also produced by Saint-Louis). DIMENSIONS: - height of the pitcher, 15.00 CM; - diameter at the level of the rim (top), 14.40 CM; - diameter at the base (bottom), approximately 07.50 CM. CONDITION REPORT: the pitcher is in excellent condition; the condition is very good: there are no chips, no gaps, cracks or shocks, no accidents. No shock at the handle. Clear and brilliant crystal, luminous, without any opacification or alteration; no limestone veil. No particular scratches (it may possibly be possible to distinguish micro micro-scratches in the decor, but these are minimal, very small, few in number and without any impact, almost invisible: refer for example to photo no. 4). Tiny scratches on the back of the base of the pitcher, very small and not noticeable again. Overall and generally, the state of conservation remains perfect. The rare signs of use are undetectable, in no way detract from the interest of the pitcher, and are completely usual on a second-hand item. There is no wear on this pitcher.
