"A Blaude/biaude Or Party Blouse In Indigo Dyed Glazed Cotton - France Circa 1850/1900"
Second half 19th century France A Blaude/Biaude or work blouse in glazed cotton dyed with indigo, which has kept its original finish. A rare testimony to French popular art, this type of blouse with festive facings for Sundays or a festive occasion was worn by men over the shirt and vest. Very fine sewing work, by pleating at the collar and small beads on the split front bib and on the shoulder tabs. Closures at the collar and cuffs with original black glass (onyx?) buttons. The glaze was obtained by applying wax, starch and sometimes egg white which was then passed through the calender (between two cylinders), then polished with an agate ball! Exceptional state of conservation for its age. Dimensions: Large size to wear blouse. Equivalent Women's size 42/44 France. Height 92 cm, sleeves 51 cm, shoulders 61 cm, chest circumference 188 cm, bottom circumference of blouse 188 cm.
