"Deblé Couple, Sénoufo, Ivory Coast"
Rare and superb old pair of DEBLÉ in hard and heavy wood with a dark patina representing a couple with very accentuated stylized shapes, all vertical, hands in palettes. RCI. These two character sculptures rest on a pestle allowing members of the secret Poro group to walk them around, regularly hammering the ground in a ritual procession, to the rhythm of songs and drums. Often as a couple, the DEBLÉ intervenes during the funeral ceremony of a Poro chief. The Sénoufo country is divided between three states: Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast and Mali. Height 157 and 162 cm. Good condition.
