"Table Nave Sterling Silver German Hanau Amphitrite Dolphins 488gr 19th Century"
Rare table nave in finely chiseled solid German silver (800, hallmarks most certainly Hanau), in the shape of a ship mounted on 4 wheels, decorated with a marine procession with Amphitrite* seated on a dolphin, surrounded by her suite (of numerous cherubs, mermen and mermaids), among reeds and blowing conch shells, rudder carved with dolphins, from the 19th century. This nave is in good condition, superb quality. Hallmarked see photos + import control hallmark. The interior is ruddy (worn). This nave is inspired by models of bottle coolers made in Augsburg (end of the 16th and 17th centuries). Please note: some slight shocks and deformations, dirt, scratches and wear over time, see photos. ___________________________ * In Greek mythology, Amphitrite is a Nereid, daughter of Nereus and Doris (or Dione according to some late sources), wife of Poseidon. According to Homer, Amphitrite also gave birth to seals. She is also, for Aelian, the mother of dolphins. From his union with Poseidon was born the fish-tailed sea god Triton. This therefore makes her, through her son, the grandmother of Pallas as well as sometimes that of Scylla and the tritons. She is often represented accompanied by dolphins and newts, sometimes other Nereids, in scenes evoking a marine procession.
