Large oil on canvas measuring 73cm x 92cm signed lower right Vigny Sylvain VIGNY was born in Austria in 1903 and died in Nice in 1970 He arrived in France in 1929, after having experienced an adventurous life in Vienna and Paris, discovered Nice in 1934 and settled there. He never learned to draw and paint. In 1928 he illustrated “La danse macabre” by Fagus. His painting is brutal but warm, restless and chaotic, the decor of the characters, the nostalgia of seignior or bourgeois hairstyles are reminiscent of Spain, of Venetian festivals.
