"Topographic Compass"
France, Unsigned, Mid-19th century. Beautiful gilded brass surveyor's compass in its walnut box, lined with velvet, including a circular compass housed on a rectangular brass plate, with a long magnetic needle on a pivot which moves in a brass circle whose circumference is graduated on steel. The plate with two screws allows you to fix the compass on a plane, an additional screw allows you to adjust the inclination of the compass.
