"Louis-augustin Auguin (attribute A) : “sunset Over The Ocean”"
Louis-Augustin Auguin (1824-1903) (attributed to): “Sunset over the Ocean”, oil on panel 36 x 61 cm, mounted in a large “Barbizon” frame 54 x 79 cm (small repeats). Although unsigned, this work is very close in writing to the Master's works, which led to its attribution. You know how much I love these “Portraits of the Sea” in which Paguenaud, Roby, Ogier and… Auguin excelled! The one who, with Hyppolite Pradelles, another “regional of the stage”, joined forces with the immense Courbet and Corot when they came to Charentes and created “Le Groupe de Port-Bertaux” which only lasted two years but through the first two influenced several generations of painters in this region and Bordeaux. For Auguin, this double spiritual sponsorship is manifest: we thus find the accuracy of the touch almost to the limit of Courbet's sketch and the sensitivity to the atmospheric effects of Corot in this superb painting whose photos struggle to convey the beauty .
