Beautiful and very rare object, a birth scapular, Catholic religion, with two embroidered plaque, for a well-born child, relics it contained guaranteed accession to the divine heavens until his baptism. (Infant mortality at the time was a scourge),
The two elements, connected by silk ribbons, were placed one in front, the other behind the shoulder blades (Scapula). hence its name.
Miniature embroidery: Scattered stitch flowers, gold embroidery of faded color; in one oval cartridge: instruments of Passion and heart of gold, on second , double monogram of Mary, heart of gold .
Note that Marie de Medici, Mother of Louis XIII and regent at probable period of this scapular, used 2 very similar intertwined Ms.
Condition: overall good, normal wear, missing the ribbons and probably the relics that were sewn there.
