The box is round, in black Martin type composition or varnish.
The base, lid and opening are enhanced with large yellow gold rims.
The lid is decorated with a cut-out number, probably in rose gold, placed on embossed metallic paper. These letters L and C formed by scrolls and flowers are the initials of the person to whom this box was given, these boxes were generally offered as a token of friendship or love.
A gold rim highlights this composition.
The inside of the box is plated with tortoiseshell.
The box bears a few tiny illegible hallmarks which are most likely Ancien Régime discharge hallmarks.
Magnificent gold-mounted box with a superb cut-out number, in very good condition.
