"Saint Joseph, Large Terracotta 18th"
Large terracotta sculpture representing Saint Joseph, with a gentle face, finely sculpted beard and hair, beautiful drapery. These statues with honeycomb structures were fired in tile kilns, too small to place them in a single part. They were therefore cooked in several elements, then assembled using wrought iron staples. One hand missing, beautiful patina. Presumably 18th or early 19th century, manufactured in Le Mans or the South West.
Another available on my gallery, Sainte Anne and the Virgin.
