" Pair Of Neo-gothic Mass Cruets, Sterling Silver, Paris 1862-1887, Jean-baptiste Alfred Martin "
Sumptuous pair of neo-Gothic style cruets in sterling silver and vermeil. The whole dates from the period of activity of its master goldsmith Jean-Baptiste Alfred Martin (1827-1887, Paris, 22, parvis Notre-Dame) whose master goldsmith's mark was inscribed in 1862 and who died in 1887. His hallmark contains the two capital letters AM separated by a bee placed on an arrow. Richly decorated with all that the neo-Gothic register contained in ornaments, these cruets were clearly intended for liturgical services on major holidays. The vermeil which covered their entire surface is the original one and is therefore quite worn in places, especially on the inside of the tray. The weight is a genereus 780 grams
