Menological Icon For The Month Of July, Russia 19th Century / Calendar Icon

Rare calendar icon representing all the saints ang feasts of the month of July. This kind of composition is also called menological icon.
This miniaturist painting is organized into four registers representing the four weeks of the month. Nearly a hundred characters are represented.
It comes from the Volga region of Russia and dates from the mid-19th century -- around 1840/1860.
It is very delicately painted in tempera on a wooden panel in rich and warm tones. The saints' vestments and halos are richly enhanced with gold leaf. Calendar icons were often given on the occasion of a birthday.
Very good original state of conservation. Small wear from time and some cracks.
