"The New Vignole Des Menuisiers "
Fascinating technical work on traditional carpentry as it was taught and practiced in the 19th century. Published by Dunod during the Second Empire, it was published for the first time in 1835. Composed of two volumes in score format (text and plates), it gives the apprentice carpenter all the elements, techniques, mathematics, and utilities (how to for example make a quote). It is illustrated with 84 plates (including the last four foldouts). This sum reveals the extent of the knowledge necessary at that time to practice the magnificent profession of carpenter. It will be useful to anyone wishing to reconstruct period carpentry elements using original knowledge, in order to avoid making proportional errors.
