"Oval Plate In Silver Brass, Liturgical Fabric Ornament, Italy, 17th Century "
Rare plaque with a religious subject, presenting a bishop on the right, and a martyr priest on the left carrying the palm and the Holy Book. Popular art 17th century, nevertheless very elaborate (see the bottom of the chasubles), sculpture in strong relief. Presence of six double holes around the edge, originally used to sew the plaque onto the liturgical vestment. The background is piquet, typical of Italian work. The plaque is glued to cardboard covered with old blue-green velvet.
