"After Claude Ballin, Urn Vase Mounted As A Lamp In Gilt Bronze With Janus Heads, 19th Century"
Magnificent urn vase mounted as a lamp after an orangery vase created by Claude Ballin (1615-1678) for the Parterre du Midi in the garden of the Palace of Versailles. Claude Ballin, goldsmith to the King, created bronze vases for the Palace of Versailles. Our copy is a beautiful sized reproduction in gilded bronze with handles of Janus heads, decorated with boar's heads, foliage, shells and Greek figures, resting on a pedestal and a square base. Collar decorated with oak branches and shells. Base decorated with oak branches and acorns. The gilding is of very good quality, great finesse and precision of the bronze chasing. Our piece dates from the mid-19th century, and was mounted as a lamp during the 20th century. A brass arch screws into the handles and carries two bulbs. The lampshade is new in pleated fabric. This is a very decorative lamp, of very high quality of execution and which one does not find every day. Mid-19th century period.
