Tibetan Tsakli Representing Vajravarahi Dakini. 19th Century - Tibet
The tsakli (or "tsakalis") is a Tibetan miniature painting used as an initiation card in Buddhist rituals and for the training of monks.
An inscription in black ink on the back of the card identifies the deity represented. The painting represents Vajravarahi, dakini (deity)
of wisdom. The figure, red and terrifying, holds a cleaver in the right hand, a skull cup filled with blood, and a khatvange spear in the left hand.
The card is, as often, in used condition, with some small gaps in polychromy.
Tibet, 19th century.
