Object description :

"Neoclassical Sauteuse Commode In Cherry Wood, Louis XVI Period."
Neoclassical cherry wood chest of drawers, Louis XVI period. Elegant model of Louis XVI period cherry wood chest of drawers with two rows of drawers, called "sautéuse", this neoclassical model presents interesting and beautiful carpentry work. The chest of drawers opens with 2 drawers, each drawer front has 3 protruding frames with grooved molding connected to the Greek. The drawer fronts are also framed by crosspieces and uprights molded in ogee and connected with a miter cut. The lower crosspiece has a double projection cutout highlighted by a protruding listel extending onto the uprights, we find the same work on the sides of the chest of drawers. The front uprights are hollowed out, giving a cutaway shape, this elegy is sculpted with 2 asparagus grooves, the same work is carried out on the rear uprights. The sides are called coffered, the panels, 2 in number, are flat and fitted into molded uprights and crosspieces connected as on the facade. For the top, the carpenter took care to continue the “boxing”, he therefore made the top in the style of parquet flooring, composed of 6 boards framed by uprights and crosspieces thus taking up the layout of the facade, with an overhang regular, it takes the shape of a cutaway and is molded a quarter round. The entire piece of furniture rests on 4 legs turned into spindles. Although bringing a lot of aesthetics to the architecture of the chest of drawers, the "boxes" are also the way of using wood species that do not have great width, or of only selecting certain parts such as the heart but also to reduce shrinkage. Here the cherry tree has been particularly well selected since it has very few wood-boring bites. Concerning the grooves, the bottom, the drawer sides as well as the floors are made of very thick poplar. This Louis XVI chest of drawers dating from the last quarter of the 18th century is a rare model, of very careful execution, it should be noted that the rear left leg has a veil, the beautiful iron lock is present on the top drawer, missing that of the lower drawer. This piece of furniture features all of these original woods and has a beautiful waxed finish. Dimensions: Width: 105.5 cm Depth: 52 cm Height: 82 cm
