Italian painter (18th-19th century) - The fourteen stations of the Via Crucis.

119 x 95 cm without frame, 137 x 114 cm with frame.

Group of fourteen ancient oil paintings on canvas, in lacquered and painted wooden frames.

Condition report: Original canvas. Good state of conservation of the pictorial surface, there are signs of aging and wear. Six paintings have been restored and re-tensioned with perimeter support bands, eight paintings are in patina.

- The fourteen Stations of the Cross commemorate the episodes of the passion and death of Jesus Christ and are represented as follows:

1) Jesus is condemned to death: Pontius Pilate condemns Jesus to crucifixion.
2) Jesus is loaded with the cross: Jesus accepts the cross and begins his journey towards Calvary.
3) Jesus falls the first time: Jesus falls under the weight of the cross.
4) Jesus meets his mother: Jesus meets the Virgin Mary along the way.
5) Simon of Cyrene helps Jesus to carry the cross: Simon is forced by the soldiers to carry the cross of Jesus.
6) Veronica wipes the face of Jesus: Veronica offers Jesus a cloth to wipe the sweat and blood from her face.
7) Jesus falls the second time: Jesus falls again under the weight of the cross.
8) Jesus consoles the women of Jerusalem: Jesus speaks to the women who cry for him.
9) Jesus falls the third time: Jesus falls for the third time under the weight of the cross.
10) Jesus is stripped of his clothes: The soldiers strip Jesus of his clothes before the crucifixion.
11) Jesus is nailed to the cross: Jesus is crucified.
12) Jesus dies on the cross: Jesus dies after three hours of agony.
13) Jesus is taken down from the cross: The body of Jesus is taken down from the cross and handed over to Mary.
14) Jesus is placed in the tomb: The body of Jesus is placed in the tomb.
