"Infantry Saber Called Briquet, For The National Guard, Mid-19th Century, July Monarchy"
Blade signed HENRAUX JNE on the heel, stamped with a star P in an oval on the other side and marked SOMBORN on the back. Henraux dit le Jeune was active around 1840 in Paris. On the guard branch near the pommel: 2E LN 2037, for the second Legion of the National Guard - corresponding to the 2nd arrondissement of Paris - number 2037, identical to that of the scabbard. On the guard, BB and star H hallmarks in an oval (Coulaux & Cie mid-19th century).
Marking on the back SOMBORN, the Somborn family comes from the German village of the same name, located not far from Cologne, where they have worked iron since the 18th century. The family business sought to expand its activities and created, in 1822 in Boulay in Moselle, the French company Somborn et Cie, in association with the Frenchman Louis Aubert.
