"Chalice And Paten In Silver France Circa 1840"
Chalice in embossed silver, chiseled, engraved, formerly gilded. It is made up of three screwed elements: a “tulip” cup, the knot and a terrace. The shape and decoration of this chalice fit it perfectly into the common models of the first half of the 19th century. The chalice foot is domed, circular in shape engraved with stylized rosettes and rush cartridges on the cavet. The embankment is decorated with a cross radiating in front of Jerusalem decorated with a rose-cut diamond and a pearl, wheat, and vine branches and highlighted with a frieze of water leaves. The stem bears a knot in the shape of a Medici vase decorated with gadroons, a corolla of leaves in its lower part, an acanthus frieze and water leaves in its upper part. The cut is smooth, slightly flared in its upper part. the interior has retained its original gilding. This chalice is accompanied by a silver paten, engraved with the initials IHS enhanced with a flowered cross.
