"Fisherman along the Martigues canal"
Oil on canvas,
Signed lower right,
Beautiful colorful work by the Marseille painter Jules Justin Claverie which represents a fisherman in his boat on the Martigues canal, more precisely on the Caronte pond.
On the banks, in the foreground, you can see the boats and fishermen's huts. Under a colorful sky in tones of pink, yellow and white, the painter certainly wanted to represent the colors of a sunrise or sunset in Provence.
A student of Dominique Magaud, Jules Claverie exhibited at the Salon des artistes français from 1897 to 1931 where he received several awards.
He also participates in exhibitions in the regions, notably in Bordeaux, Draguignan, Avignon... where his work is rewarded with medals. His works are today kept in various museums in France: Marseille, Versailles, Nice, Toulon, Dijon...
Note: An old restoration on the back, without impact, should be noted.
Dimensions: 46 x 65 cm without frame and 60.5 x 80 cm with its original Louis XV style frame in gilded wood. (Some gaps in the frame)
