Work in the style of Gabriel Viardot: French cabinetmaker, Gabriel Viardot will very quickly become interested in Japonism, an artistic movement in vogue at his time. He will be one of the first to make it his specialty: Maison Viardot will produce furniture in Chinese or Japanese styles, adapted to European tastes and while including ornaments truly from Asia (lacquer panels, mother-of-pearl ). This mixture brings to Viardot's creations a preciousness and luxury very popular at the time: it will meet with great success during the Universal Exhibitions, a success that is still current due to the extremely decorative nature of the pieces.
