Pleasant and comfortable Mehraban rug measuring 130 cm wide by 195 cm long.
Circa 1950-1960, this piece is in very good condition, the wool is shiny and offers a solid velvet.
The town Mehraban is located in Azerbaijan, about 15km south of Heriz.
The town and neighboring villages are known for weaving large, quality rugs at reasonable prices.
The wool is of very high quality and very thick and the colors are often natural.
The colors are often predominantly blues and reds.
designs are influenced by the Tabriz but the lines are without curves, rather linear with angular cuts. There are carpets similar to the Mehraban, the Heriz-Goravan.
The few colors, typical of the genre, are fresh and soft. The wool of these highland rugs is always of superb quality.
Traditionally, hand-knotted rugs still represent the highest quality standard among all types of rugs. Depending on the type of knot, the carpets are extremely robust and can last several generations, which is the case with this type of carpet.
The finer and tighter a rug is knotted, the more detailed ornaments and patterns can be represented on the pile pile.
At the same time, a very fine oriental rug requires much greater manual effort as well as a higher level of experience and skill of the knotter.
Thus, the knot density is also a decisive value factor for hand-knotted rugs. Quality is not directly related to node density.
A fairly coarse rug may very well have been made in an excellent way and from high quality wool
