Ettore Sottsass Born in 1917 in Austria to an Italian father and an Austrian mother, Ettore Sottsass moved to Italy, the family cradle, at an early age. His approach and his commitment are part of a reflection that he carried out at the heart of the Italian avant-garde of the 60s until the Nuovo Design of the 80s where a new generation of designers claimed their spiritual heritage Navigating between architecture, industrial design and experimental design, Ettore Sottsass has occupied a prominent place on the Italian creative scene since the 1950s. A committed intellectual, free spirit and non-conformist, he knew how to be at the heart of the cultural movements of his time, ensuring continuity from his founding experience at Olivetti in the 1950s until the creation of the Memphis group in 1981. Zanotta Edizioni, born in 1989, is a particular collection of decorative objects which is located in a zone between art and design. The pieces in this collection are inspired by the tradition of Italian artistic craftsmanship. Freed from the obligations of industrial production, they have a strong component of “handmade” work.
