Beautiful portrait of a quality lady in a hat by Luigi Rubio. Painter of history and portraits, born in Rome on February 6, 1801, died in Florence on August 2, 1882. He studied at the San Luca Academy and was admitted to its membership in 1827. He then came to Paris, worked with Léon Cognet and exhibited at the Paris Salon, particularly portraits. Rubio lived for around twenty years in Geneva. He traveled a lot and created four paintings for the Russian church in Geneva. He painted the portrait of Sultan Abdul Medjid Khan in Constantinople in the Salon of 1848. He went to Russia and painted the tzar's portrait. In 1870 he was appointed professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence. His works can be seen at the Antwerp Museum, portrait of the painter Calame in Geneva, picking oranges in Sorrento at Trianon, the marriage of Salvator Rosa purchased by the state in 1836, at the Uffizi Museum in Florence, the portrait of the artist. This very beautiful portrait is signed lower left L Rubio dated 1841, in very good condition it represents a young woman in a straw hat holding a ball card in her hands.
