The artist
Paul Albert Baudouin (or Baudoüin) was born in Rouen in 1844. In 1874, he joined the Ecole des Beaux-arts in Paris, in the class of Pierre Puvis de Chavannes. He first painted views of Paris and Normandy. The work proposed here dates from this period. At the end of the 1880s, he trained in fresco techniques. He would have a brilliant career as a fresco artist, decorating numerous establishments in Pris, in the Paris region and of course in Rouen. The city gave its name to one of its streets. Paul Baudouin was famous during his lifetime and was widely honored (gold medal at the Paris Universal Exhibition of 1889, Legion of Honor, etc.). In 1919, he became a professor, head of the fine arts painting workshop, a position he held until 1929, teaching fresco technique.
His frescoes are visible in the establishments for which they were created. His painted works have been the subject of numerous public sales.
