Object description :

"Vatican Seals - Reliquary Of Saints Cesari And Modeste, Martyrs – 18th Century"
With its exceptional pontifical seals, our large obelisk in carved and gilded wood is topped with a crown and a cross symbolizing the double reign of Christ, earthly and celestial reign. It honors a bagged ulna, a notable relic of Saint Cesari, Martyr. It is probably Saint Caesarius of Armenia, who died as a Martyr in Armenia around 309.
Placed on red velvet, it sits horizontally on an ex-ossibus relic of Saint Modeste positioned in a medallion. The back of the reliquary, opening, reveals four red wax seals, thereby authenticating the relics presented.
These seals represent two keys of Saint Peter placed in a saltire and surmounted by a tiara with the papal inscription: “servus servorum Dei tu es Petrus”. This is the official seal of the Vatican, giving additional spiritual value to this remarkable piece.

Excellent condition, re-gilded. Dimensions of 58 cm high by 13 wide and 8 deep.

Independently of this reliquary, the Gallery also offers two other monstrances of identical presentation, honoring the Martyrs Saint Reparat and Saint Amadai for one and Saint Marani accompanying Saint Benedict for the second. Our triptych deserves not to be separated.
