This three-quarter length portrait depicts a mysterious beauty, seated in an elegant and opulent park landscape. She is looking kindly at the spectator as is her parrot. Her opulent royal blue silk gown is adorned with a magnificent diamond brooch and shimmering beautifully. A pearl strand, which was a highly prized and cherished possession at the time, has been delicately placed in her hair.
Constantin Netscher (1668–1723) was a distinguished Dutch painter, primarily known for his portraits and genre scenes. He was the son of the more celebrated painter Caspar Netscher, a pivotal figure in the Dutch Golden Age of painting. Constantin was born into an artistic family and received his initial training under the guidance of his father, Caspar Netscher, inheriting and continuing the artistic legacy.
Netscher's works are marked by their refined execution and meticulous attention to detail. He had a talent for capturing the elegance and sophistication of his subjects, often portraying the Dutch elite in opulent settings. His portraits are particularly notable for their lifelike representation of fashion and social status, which were highly sought after by the aristocracy of his time. In addition to portraits, he also produced genre scenes that provide a glimpse into the daily life and customs of the period.
Several prestigious museums include works by Constantin Netscher in their collections:
