"Verge Repousse Pocket Watch, James Vigne, 1780"
Fabulous English pocket watch "Repoussé" and verge escapement, signed "James Vigne London". 18th century, around 1780The watchmaker James Vigne, born in 1745, worked as a watchmaker in London and was based at 2 Charing Cross around 1789. The Vigne family moved to 27 College Green in Dublin where he was mentioned as the Queen's jeweler.
James Vigne died on December 15, 1800 in Dublin.
The watch is equipped with a Verge escapement with gilded brass plate, chiseled and engraved, Signed James Vigne London.
Dial with Arabic numerals. Mineral Glass.
Equipped with an old key for charging and for adjustment.
The watch consists of two golden cases in excellent condition:
External casing with embossed treatment depicting a landscape with a shepherd and a dog.
Case containing the movement.
Small internal card certifying an old revision.
Diameter 48mm.
Splendid example of watchmaking with more than 240 years of history... In working order, serviced by the watchmaker.
