Beautiful Harpocrates head, wearing the crown of Upper and Lower Egypt, Pschent.
His youthful face bears a gentle expression, a finger placed over his mouth to symbolise the silence observed by those initiated into the mysteries of his cult.
Orange terracotta, marks of age, a few small chips, no restoration, good general state of conservation, see photos.
Egypt, Ptolemaic period, 300 to 100 BC
Dimensions with base :11.5 cm
Dimensions without base: 7 x 4.2 cm
Provenance: former collection of Mr Challans, established in the 1970s.
Sold with base and certificate of authenticity from the expert Serge Reynes as well as an invoice from the Gallery.
