"Denis Charles Fouqueray : “pasajes In The Basque Country”"
Dominique Charles Fouqueray (1869-1956): “Pasajes”, oil on panel 34 x 25 cm, mounted in a very pretty old gilded frame 41 x 32 cm. Archetype of the painter-traveler, Fouqueray only managed to obtain the coveted title of Official Painter of the Navy in 1908! A genius jack of all trades, he created postage stamps as well as immense frescoes, book illustrations and engravings. If the historicist vein of his work is often present on the market, I prefer his contemporary portraits and landscapes, like here this view of Pasajes (Pasaia in Basque) near San Sebastian whose facades glow red at sunset.
