"Edouard Brun Mountain Painter Lac Du Riffel"
Riffel Lake painted on canvas cardboard by Édouard Brun (1860-1935). Edouard Brun was born in 1860 in Grenoble where he received his first training in painting from Father Guetal. Then a student of Jean Achard, he first opened a gallery where he exhibited his painter friends including François-Auguste Ravier and Johan Barthold Jongkind. Then he decided to devote himself solely to painting, using his mountaineering skills to get to the motif. Exhibiting in Paris, Saint Petersburg, Turin and London, he joined the society of mountain painters in 1903. He also painted large paintings representing mountain landscapes. He died in 1935 in Saint Vincent-de-Mercuze. The painting is signed lower left, framed in a molded wooden frame painted white and measures 32.2x49.2 cm without frame.
