Biography:
VITO VACCARO 1887/1960
Vito Vaccaro is a painter and sculptor born in Palermo. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Palermo and was a student of Marco Rutelli. His first works appeared in 1913 at the Exhibition of the Artistic Circle of his city. In 1914 he obtained a silver medal diploma at the "Exhibition of Fine Arts - Didactic Exhibition" at the Teatro Massimo and a review was made at the Giornale di Sicilia. Later he gained recognition and prizes in regional Sicilian exhibitions.
A period of silence was caused by participation in the war of 1915-18. Then he moved to Milan where he fully revealed his skills and where he joined the circle of Milanese artists. He participated in the National Exhibition of the Royal Academy of Brera 1923 - Milan, in the Second Roman Biennale 1924, in the First Marinara Exhibition 1925-Rome, in the XV International Exhibition of Venice 1926, in the Second Union Exhibition Lombard fascist 1929-Milan, at the II Roman Biennale 1928.
There are many personal exhibitions in Milan: Galleria Vinciana, Galleria Geri, Galleria Bolzani and the different galleries of the Lombard provinces. His works were cited by Italian newspapers such as Il Messaggero, l'Ora, Corriere della Sera and in Paris "La Revue Moderne" which reinforced the power of attraction and the search for human content among simple and humble beings. The pictorial themes were numerous, still lifes, landscapes, compositions with characters. This ranged from oil painting to watercolor and pastel. Each work highlights the accuracy of the drawing and the strength of the color which vibrate the gentleness of a child, maintaining the intensity of an old man, maintaining the lights and shadows of a still life. Among the sculptures: Maternity - Laughing Child - The grape bearer - Montanaro. Various tombstones in honor of the dead (Cesare Correnti School - Via Solferino Milan School). There are many monuments created at the monumental cemetery of Milan, among which a magnificent Pietà stands out. Among the posthumous exhibitions to remember in Bergamo, "First exhibition of deceased artists" 1963 - "Salone della Consulta" in Milan 1974 - Palazzo del Turismo. Almost fifty years after his death, part of the collection was presented to the Humanist Library of the Incoronates, coinciding with the publication of the first monograph produced by the Mazzotta publishing house.
The volume contains 25 sculptures, 80 paintings and 60 drawings in color and black and white. Vito Vaccaro was included among the most meritorious artists of the city of Milan
