Contemporary binding in full brown glazed calfskin, triple gilt fillet framing the covers, smooth spine decorated with vertical gilt fillets, triple gilt lines, gilt stars, each of the boxes is decorated with an interlacing of stylized ''L''s golden crowns occupied in their center by three golden lilies; the whole, surmounted by a golden royal crown, angular fleurons with lilies, old-red morocco title piece, golden title, golden palette at the head and tail, golden fillet on the cuts, speckled edges. Copy with the arms (repeated on the back) of Louis XVI. ''Very pretty edition given by Suard, including a Notice on the character and writings of the Duke of La Rochefoucauld written by the latter. The Warning indicates that it was established on the original manuscript and on copies corrected by the author. This edition incorporates maxims that the moralist had rejected during his lifetime.''
