Albert Decaris (1901- 1988)
Prix de Rome in 1929 and master of severe graphics at the service of a rich imagination , since 1926 he has produced numerous book illustrations, in particular the first three notebooks of Mémoires d'outre-tombe by Chateaubriand, Réflexions ou sentences et Maximes morales by La Rochefoucauld, as well as Ronsard, Shakespeare, Barrés, Vigny, Aeschyle and Cornelius. In addition, since 1933, he has regularly engraved and we owe him around 500 stamps. He was a member of the Institute since 1943 and exhibited in 1945 at the Salon d'Automne. Finally he was appointed painter of the Navy in 1973.
