Magnificent group of Doccia porcelain from around 1830 which represents a bacchanal with a large number of characters, and an extraordinary level of detail. Due to its size, its conceptual and artistic value and its masterpiece nature, it is a museum piece and a rarity among ancient European ceramics. All the pieces are marked and numbered to be able to assemble the composition, which functions perfectly as a round whole, since each of the individualized scenes is surrounded by the large herm which unifies the whole with the head of Bacchus as the thematic and geographical center. of this Bacchanal. Wine and worldly pleasures are represented with exceptional precision: the analyses of the maenads, the hairy goat legs of the fauns, the grapes and the garlands have a magnificent volumetry. The sculptures come from models designed in the 18th century by the great Neapolitan sculptors Soldani and Casini, widely used in Capodimonte's early historical period. - Provenance: The whole comes from the sale of the collection assembled by José Antonio de Sangróniz during the period when he was ambassador of Franco's Spain to Italy (1945-1956), which included numerous works of art such as high quality paintings, ceramics, or tapestries. - Measurements: The column with bacchanal bust measures 43 cm high.
