"Rare Set In 23 Volumes In 16 From The Satirical Review By Alphonse Karr In Original 1839/45"
Rare original collection of the Revue Satirique in 23 Volumes In 16, half-bound smooth spine in oilve green sheepskin, gilded fillets, gilded titles and volume numbers, green marbled covers, beautiful frontispiece in false title. This interesting Satirical Review of the end of the Reign of Louis Philippe spans its publication from 1839 to 1845; it is very rare to find it complete; written by Alphonse Karr (1808-1890), in which he describes the Literary and Political Intellectual Society of his time and denounces its stupidities, abuses and shenanigans. “The Wasps” stings with humor without being really ferocious. A charming collection which relates the facts and curiosities of the Society in place at the end of the reign of Louis Philippe, just before Napoleon III. Fun and easy to read, this lively and very entertaining text
