Some details of this painting are reported admirably and expertly investigated, such as the drapery of Judith's dress which are analytically described: like the sleeve of the shirt and the iridescent effects of the mustard-coloured dress which seems to be made of a fine fabric like the velvet, demonstrating a certain propensity of the painter to study from life. The woman's face while showing off the decapitated and bleeding head of Holofernes, also of quality in design and rendering, shows signs of audacious pride and awareness of having succeeded in the fight against evil. The handmaid behind her who looks at her in an astonished and intrigued way is expertly painted and expresses the emotion of the moment well. The Tuscan Caravaggio painter who painted it gave fundamental emphasis to the play of light, and the warm chromaticity that creates intimacy and intensity in the entire scene is also expertly calibrated.
The pictorial context to which we can rely is certainly that close to the master Orazio Gentileschi (1563 Pisa - 1639 London), of whom we are in fact aware of a painting with the same scene, subjects and positions, which however appears to be in the of ''Non Finite'' and attributed to Orazio and Aiuti.
