Otto Lessing (1846-1912) was a renowned German sculptor and architect. Born in Munich, he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in his hometown. Lessing is best known for his work on public buildings in Berlin, including the dome of the Reichstag and the decoration of the Berlin Opera. He was also a professor at the Berlin Academy of Arts, influencing a generation of sculptors. Lessing was a key figure in the integration of sculpture into neoclassical and historicist architecture in Germany.
