"Anglo-saxon School Circa 1820 : "portrait With Red Hanging""
Anglo-Saxon school around 1820: “Portrait with red hanging”, oil on beveled walnut panel approximately 77 The panel is cussoned at the back on the sides (sapwood), but few holes are through, and a long retraction slot starts vertically from the top and crosses the ear... This extraordinary portrait was produced around 1820 by a English or American artist, close to Raeburn or Scott. If we do not know for the moment the identity of the model, it is obviously a very important character, a Lord or a high Dignitary, as indicated by the way of representing himself in front of a red hanging, the hand leaning around what appears to be a cane. We will particularly like the treatment of the light shirt, treated with a single brushstroke of incredible precision, or that of the buttons which, in an apparent simplicity nevertheless reveals shadows and reflections... It represents a man of about sixty years old, with a fair complexion and a very light blue, very penetrating look, the look of a husky... A strange lock connected by a ring or a ribbon seems to come out of his hair. Museum painting or... large collection!
