Pierre Rouvier 18th Century Miniaturist Painter "Large Gold Medallion with Miniature Portrait of a Gentleman" Signed Rouvier and dated "Year 2. The gold rim is very thick. (6 mm) The glasses are domed and very thick. Pierre ROUVIER ( Born in Aix-en-Provence, around 1742, died in 1815). Protected student of the Royal Academy in Paris in 1770, recommended by the Marquis de Marigny, he exhibited at the Salon de la Correspondance in 1779 and built up a large clientele. Rouvier is represented in all the major collections, at the Louvre, at the Lorraine Historical Museum in Nancy, at the Museum Briner und Kern, Winterthur, Switzerland; . Tansey, Celle, Germany. The Medallion is "double-sided" allowing a lock of hair to be inserted... Exceptional miniature.....of one of the greatest miniaturist painters of his time..
