Night Watchman's Lantern, Switched On And Off, Painted Sheet Metal, 18-19th Century flag

Object description :

"Night Watchman's Lantern, Switched On And Off, Painted Sheet Metal, 18-19th Century "
Beautiful large white iron lantern, openwork,  tin, formerly painted black and gold, light because it had to be carried on end of a pole, by upper chain ring. It is a candle lantern , to keep the place's lights lit, candle or oil,  with a conical side snuffer to extinguish these lamps on morning....
Hard work, exposed to bad weather, and night work... a lot of cleaning of lighting fixtures, in balance.
Good condition, it has hardly been used...
Instead of curved glasses, it was partially equipped with mica plates, visible from the thinness of the slides provided inside.
Origin: a German auction house.
18th or early 19th century.
Good general condition, External dimensions: 38cm x 20cm, diameter: 15cm. Weight 0.5kg.
