Object description :

"Sarreguemines, Ernest Quost, Still Life On Earthenware"
Monumental earthenware dish presenting a still life.
Hand-painted work, signed E. Quost, 1880.
This artist, who rubbed shoulders with the greatest of his time (Monet, Van-Gogh...), member of the French Artists since 1887, medalist at the Universal Exhibitions of 1887 and 1900, is present in many museums.
From his collaboration with the Sarreguemines earthenware factory, of which the museum has two works in its collections, we will remember, among other things, the painted decorations on monumental dishes, sometimes framed with black woodwork. These unique pieces are most often floral decorations, still lifes...
This 82 cm diameter dish is particularly imposing.
A suitable metal frame allows it to be hung.
An article on Ernest Quost and the Sarreguemines earthenware factory is visible on www.benedick-sarreguemines.com, “Object of the month” section.
