Magnificent large silver timpani from the Louis XV period.The timpani rests on a pedestal decorated with an egg frieze.
The body of the timpani is entirely engraved with a transitional decoration of softened rocaille.
The lower register is engraved with bouquets of flowers in large oval cartouches.
The upper register is composed of stylized shells and garlands of flowers.
The timpani is engraved “38” on the body and “I • BE I AV” on the pedestal.
The timpani is hallmarked:
. Crowned: charge mark for Paris between 1768 and 1774
. Letter date I for the year 1772-73
. Goldsmith's mark: NCBD with a lance for Christmas-César Boutheroue-Desmarais received master in 1764
. A helmeted head, discharge punch
Superb timpani with a very covering engraved decoration, finely made with rocaille elements softened by the neoclassical rigor to come under the reign of Louis XVI.
